Dr. Rajinder marok, M.D., FACC

Dr Raj Marok is the Medical Director of the Structural Heart and Valve Center and Structural Heart Disease Clinic at West Michigan Cardiology. He earned his BSc in Neurobiology from University of California Davis (UCD) and his MD from St Matthew’s University. His internship, residency, and Cardiology fellowships were completed at Advocate Health Care an affiliate of the University of Illinois in Chicago, IL. He completed Interventional Cardiology and advanced Interventional Cardiology fellowships at the prestigious New York Presbyterian and Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY where he focused on structural heart, complex PCI, and endovascular medicine.

Dr. Marok began practicing in Grand Rapids in 2017 and is a partner at West Michigan Cardiology. His clinical practice focuses on treating patients with structural heart and valve disease and complex coronary disease. He believes in a patient-centered approach to care with shared and informed decision-making during each encounter. He views caregiving as a deeply interpersonal relationship between patient and provider that is driven by a foundation of knowledge, empathy, and moral responsibility.

He treats a wide arrange of valve conditions including aortic valve stenosis using Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), mitral valve regurgitation using the Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge repair (TEER) Abbott MitraClip device and Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (TMVR) for degenerated bio-prosthetic mitral valves. He also performs complex aortic, mitral, and tricuspid paravalvular leak closures for patients with failing prosthetic valves.

West Michigan Cardiology pioneered transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacements in the West Michigan area and performed the first TAVR in 2012 at Spectrum Health. Dr. Marok also performs left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) using both the WATCHMAN FLX and AMULET devices for patients seeking an alternative to oral anticoagulation and is the highest volume implanter in both West Michigan and the state of Michigan.

He performs patent foramen ovale (PFO) closures for patients with cryptogenic strokes and congenital heart defects including atrial septal defects. He pioneered a minimally-invasive, ICE (intra-cardiac echo)-guided left atrial appendage program in Grand Rapids and initiated a same-day-discharge program for LAAC patients. He is a high-volume operator of complex coronary interventions and chronic total occlusion (CTO) interventions.

Dr. Marok is a proud husband and father of three young boys. He is a Formula 1 race car enthusiast with a passion for automotive engineering and repair. He enjoys playing golf with his two older sons and enjoys traveling the world.
