Certain cardiac conditions require an implanted cardiac device be placed. Dr Singh and Dr Mander have been performing device implants at West Michigan Cardiology for over 20 years. Dr. Singh specializes in traditional pacemaker implants, leadless pacemaker implants, loop recorder implants, and defibrillator implants (including biventricular and subcutaneous devices). Dr. Mander specializes in traditional pacemaker implants and loop recorder implants. West Michigan Cardiology also offers the only provider operated device clinic in the area. This means your newly implanted pacemaker, defibrillator, or loop recorder will be monitored and managed by a board certified physician assistant who is specifically trained in management of implanted cardiac devices by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners.

Types of implanted cardiac devices

Pacemakers

A pacemaker is a device inserted under the skin that is connected to the hearts electrical system in order to prevent the heart from beating too slowly. A device clinic physician assistant is trained to interrogate pacemakers and make the appropriate changes to the device for optimal function
Defibrillators

A defibrillator is a device inserted under the skin that is connected to the hearts electrical system in order to prevent the heart from beating too slowly but can also detect and treat any life threatening fast heart rhythms. A device clinic physician assistant is trained to interrogate defibrillators and make the appropriate changes to the device for optimal function
CRT (cardiac resynchronization therapy)

CRT devices can be either a pacemaker or a defibrillator. A device clinic physician assistant is trained to interrogate CRT devices and make the appropriate changes for optimal function
Loop Recorders

A loop recorder is a device inserted under the skin that can monitor the hearts rhythm for up to 3 years. A device clinic physician assistant is trained to interrogate and monitor these devices
Remote patient monitoring

Remote patient monitoring provides peace of mind and an extra level of safety for our patients with implanted devices. Pacemakers, defibrillations, loop records and CardioMEMs devices can be electronically linked to your cardiologist office for real time monitoring of their function and of our patients health conditions. Our device clinic staff is specially trained to monitor and manage the information received from these devices.
CardioMEMs

CardioMEMs provide the cardiologist with information about a patient’s volume status. These devices are used to assess for and manage congestive heart failure. CardioMEMs devices are electronically linked to the device clinic where they are monitored daily.

Sara Cox, PA-C, Megan Taratuta, PA-C, Andra Talaska, PA-C, and Elizabeth Hale, M.A. operate the device clinic in conjunction with the cardiologists at West Michigan Cardiology. They are available to assist you with any device-related questions, management of your implanted cardiac device, and remote patient monitoring.
