Coronary Calcium Scoring

The 64-slice cardiac CT scan for coronary calcium detects and measures the presence and location of calcified plaque in the coronary arteries. Calcified plaque signals the presence of atherosclerosis, a disease of the vessel wall, also called coronary artery disease (CAD). Over time, progression of plaque buildup can narrow the arteries or even close off blood flow to the heart.
The calcium score screening exam takes just five minutes and no special preparation is needed. In the event that elevated coronary artery calcium is discovered, our cardiology team will advise you on appropriate follow-up and treatment.
